EA Desktop App

2017 - 2022
Role: Head of Design

As we continued to evolve the digital strategy for Electronic Arts, we identified an opportunity to create more brand coherence across the web, on desktop and other surfaces. Our team set its sights on the PC gaming experience, which represents over $1B in annual revenue.

We created the Quantum Design System to help us design EA’s application experiences and applied it to an all-new PC gaming app with an increased focus on the EA Play experience, much like other subscription media services. Compared to its predecessor Origin, the EA desktop app is a faster, more performant app with a focus on getting players into the games they love as quickly as possible.

A streamlined application combines à la carte purchasing and all-access subscriptions into one view.

No more confusing and separate experiences for buyers versus subscribers — since we know that players want the choice to both subscribe and buy on a case-by-case basis.

Dark mode lets the game content take over and do the talking.

When they’re in their gaming lair, no one wants a bright interface shining in their eyes.

Get in the game

Your games are always patched and up to date. Just like Spotify, Netflix or other services, you can access your library from any computer.

All you can play

The EA app is the best way to subscribe to EA Play, where players get access to more than a hundred games.

Sharing the Vision

In a WFH world, I’ve found that videos are a great way of keeping teammates, partners, and executives aware of the approaches we take to product design. Here is an example of an easy-to-consume video overview that I created.
